We have incorporated a range of energy-efficient store equipment and facilities in order to reduce electricity usage.
For ceiling lighting, we have adopted an automatic light adjustment system that adjusts the brightness of lights based on the time of day in combination with input from sensors that detect ambient outdoor illumination. As for refrigeration facilities, we are working to reduce electricity usage through the low-voltage control of inverter refrigerators and freezers.
From August 2008, Circle K Sunkus began field testing a pole sign equipped with a light-emitting diode (LED) unit. The LED pole sign that is being field tested can reduce power consumption by approximately 55% and reduce annual CO2 emissions by around 530 kg compared with conventional fluorescent lighting. Based on the field test results, we will closely examine the feasibility of introducing LED lighting for pole signs and other store facilities.
In 2007, Circle K Sunkus opened eco-friendly stores in the Higashi Meihan Expressway Ooyamada parking area (up lane), and the Tokai Hokuriku Expressway Hirugano service area (down lane). These stores were fitted with UV/IR blocking glass and LED signs as an initiative to develop stores based on an eco-friendly model. Porch tile and store flooring materials made from recycled products, as well as recyclable ceiling materials and other eco-friendly materials, were also used.
